Exploring some of the dimensions of EQ or EI as some call it.
In this clip you can actually see two of the dimensions of EQ, namely, Independence and Reality Testing.
Firstly the example of the dimension of independence. – George: “Before you came into my life, I was capable of making all kinds of decisions, now I can’t, I’m addicted — I have to know what you think. What do you think?”
Then the example of the dimension of Reality Testing. – Lucy: “George, I think you’re the most selfish human being on the planet.” George: “Well, that’s just silly. Have you met everybody on the planet?”
In module 1 of the License to Lead course we deal with the Situational Leadership Styles theory by Hersey and Blanchard. One of the key concepts covered in that section is that you have to treat each leadership situation with a different style. The style you use is dependent on the person being lead. In order to choose a style you have to answer the two diagnostic questions:
1.) Can they do the job?
2.) Do they want to do the job?
The only way you will know the answer to those questions is if you know your team members. This video clip doesn’t illustrate any of the styles, but it shows the importance of knowing your team members.
